Netflix est passé à côté de cette opportunité alors que le géant américain vient de signer un deal de 5 ans avec Sony Pictures Entertainment. Le film étant sorti en 2021, il ne fait donc pas partie de l’accord. Qu’en est-il de la France ? Netflix est donc passé à côté de la diffusion de Spider-man No Way Home sur sa plateforme à quelques jours près. La plateforme de streaming vient en effet de signer un contrat sur 5 ans avec Sony. Ce qui lui donne l’exclusivité de diffuser les films de Sony pendant 18 mois après leur sortie. Spider-man No Way Home étant sorti le 15 décembre 2021, il n’est pas donc pas concerné par ce deal. Ainsi, après les 18 mois d’exclusivité de Starz, Netflix ou Disney + pourraient à leur tour diffuser le film sur leur plateforme. Pour rappel, ce contrat d’exclusivité des plateformes ne concerne que le territoire américain. En effet, en France le parcours de Spider-man No Way Home sera différent. Si l’on suit les nouvelles règles de diffusion, Spider-man No Way Home sera disponible en DVD et Blu-Ray en avril 2022. Canal+ pourra diffuser le film en juin 2022. Enfin, les sites de streaming devront trouver un accord pour diffuser le film sur leur plateforme. Ainsi, Netflix pourra le diffuser 15 mois après sa sortie. On pourrait donc retrouver Spider-man sur la plateforme en mars 2023. Disney+ et Amazon Prime Video devront attendre 17 mois avant d’ajouter le film à leur catalogue.
